Meet Lorena

Psychologist in Edinburgh.

My journey in Psychology began at the University of Oviedo, where I completed my degree. I have always been passionate about traveling, discovering new cultures, and learning languages, which is why I decided to spend a year abroad with the Erasmus program in Cagliari, Italy. After graduating, I was awarded an internship grant at the University of Cagliari, within the Faculty of Neurosciences.

In 2014, I made an important decision: moving to Scotland to pursue a master’s degree in Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Psychological Practice at the University of Edinburgh (MSc Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Psychological Practice).

My professional journey began working closely with children, first in the educational field as an early years educator, and later in the field of mental health, as a psychologist in a non-profit organization. There, I supported families facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, autism, ADHD, low self-esteem, emotional regulation difficulties, and struggles with interpersonal relationships.

Since 2021, I have also been offering online sessions and therapeutic walks for adults, couples, and families. Many of my clients seek support in managing anxiety and depression; together, we explore the root causes of their symptoms and develop personalized strategies and tools to help them cope.

With the desire to continue growing as a professional, in 2022 I obtained my certification as a Mindfulness instructor. Since then, I have been leading mindfulness courses and meditation groups.

In my daily practice, I integrate different therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-based techniques. I believe it is essential to consider all aspects of a person’s life, emotional, physical, and social, in order to provide a holistic and personalized intervention that supports each client on their journey toward well-being.

Why Psychotherapy

Psychological therapy in Edinburgh

Life is full of emotional, personal, and professional challenges that can affect our psychological well-being. Psychological therapy in Edinburgh is an effective resource to address anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, or life transitions that require a little extra support.

One of the aspects that makes my approach unique as a therapist is that I offer sessions in several languages. I can support you in Italian, Spanish, and English, creating a more natural and fluent communication for people living or working in Scotland who wish to feel fully understood in their own language.

The psychological therapy Edinburgh I provide is entirely tailored to you, your needs, your pace, and your personal growth.

Why Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy can help you:

Learn to communicate more assertively

Identify and reframe negative automatic thoughts

Build self-confidence and improve self-esteem

Face fears and worries

Create space for self-awareness and self-care

Develop healthier relationships

Strengthen resilience

We all go through changes. How we face those changes is what truly matters.

Butterfly psychologyst therapy italian spanish english

The butterfly metaphor

Once upon a time, there were three caterpillars beginning their transformation into butterflies. They were no longer hungry, their mobility was slowing down, and the cocoons were isolating them from the outside world they had known until then.

The first one thought her life was ending, and from the depths of her heart she said goodbye to the good moments.

The second caterpillar comforted herself by thinking that things would eventually go back to normal.

The third felt that what was happening could be an opportunity to make her dream come true: to fly.

When the cocoons opened, three very different realities emerged:

The first was a beautiful butterfly, but she was dead. She had died of fear.

The second was a lovely butterfly, but instead of flying, she crawled, convinced she was still a caterpillar.

When the third saw the light, she looked for her wings, and upon finding them, her heart filled with joy. She began to fly, spreading her happiness throughout the forest.

"Life is the story you tell yourself. Psychotherapy helps you to find the right words for your story".

Walking Therapy

What is walking therapy?

As you can imagine, walking therapy consist of holding the therapy session outdoors, preferably in a green space.

Why choose this option?

Walking in nature offers multiple benefits:

- Reduces stress

- Helps you practice mindfulness and focus on the present moment

- Exercise has been proven to improve both physical and mental health

- Being in contact with nature increases pleasant feelings while reducing anger, fear, low mood, and frustration

Suggested places for therapeutic walks in Edinburgh include:

- Inverleith Park

- Botanic Gardens

- Calton Hill

- Cramond Beach

This is Scotland, so remember: “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.” If on the day of your session you don’t feel comfortable with the weather, you can swap the walk for an online session instead.

Sessions last 1 hour and are available for individual therapy only.
